CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
Council Member Iwanaga attended her first South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA) meeting, the Joint Water Resource Committee and Valley Water meeting, a presentation on the health status of Morgan Hill, and a virtual Cal Cities session on cybersecurity. She plans to tour several Valley Water facilities and, in a few weeks, travel by train to the Cal Cities City Leaders Summit in Sacramento.

CITY MANAGER'S REPORT
City Manager Christina Turner provided the following updates:

Update on LAFCO meeting on the South County Fire District.

The City submitted the 2024 Housing and General Plan Annual Progress Report (APR) to the State by the April 1st deadline, detailing its progress in implementing its Housing Element and meeting its Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). The City’s RHNA allocation through 2031 is 1,037 units; out of this amount, the City has met the RHNA requirements for 815 units to date, leaving 324 units left to meet the City’s RHNA requirements. Due to the City's progress in meeting RHNA requirements, Morgan Hill is not currently subject to SB 423/SB35 (Streamlined Ministerial Approval Process for multifamily housing developments) through 2027.

Registration is now open for the Morgan Hill Police Youth Academy in partnership with our Explorer Post 811. This week-long summer program, June 10-13, provides an opportunity for local teens to explore the various roles and responsibilities of law enforcement career options and acquire a deeper understanding of community engagement and policing. This experience creates a positive environment for teens to engage in social, educational, and physical activities while promoting teamwork and an opportunity to build relationships with their peers. Our Youth Academy is open to teens between 14 and 18 who reside in or attend school in the 95037 zip code. For any questions or additional information, please visit the City’s website.

Our Council Chamber A/V equipment replacement and upgrade project will begin in a couple of weeks and be completed in May. As a reminder, the improvements include an assistive listening system, new projectors, screens at the dais for improved visibility, and higher-quality video output.
