AGENDA CORRESPONDENCE

CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED BY THE

CITY COUNCIL FOR PUBLIC REVIEW

PRIOR TO THE MEETING
AGENDA NO: 4a
MEETING DATE: August 13, 2024

2 Once this sidewalk section is complete, pedestrians will be able to safely and easily travel from the bike path/MBHS area all the way to Morro Creek, Coleman Park, and beyond. If a long-term lease is on the table today that would directly impact the unimproved parcel fronting Atascadero Road, the City may consider requiring frontage improvements and/or sharing the cost of such improvements. If, however, the frontage parcel is not part of today's discussion, the City still ought to strongly consider completing the sidewalk section independent of your negotiations.

Beautification at 1700 Embarcadero
Since shutting its doors, the former sewer plant's entrance has been understandably neglected.

However, over time, it seems increasingly harmful to draw attention away from the adjacent beauty and to generally just waste the space.
3 Perhaps in your negotiations today, the leaseholder can propose temporary or permanent landscaping improvements or offer local groups custodianship of these high-visibility opportunity sites through an "adopt-a-space" type of program.
4 Some suggestions may include:
 Cal Poly (architecture, landscape architecture, art, marine science, etc.)  Morro Bay Public Works (informational panels showing new water treatment technology, aquifer maps, injection process, etc.)
 Morro Bay High School (landscaping, art installation, marine science exhibit, etc.)  Del Mar Elementary (garden, rotating art exhibit, poetry project, etc.)  Art Center of Morro Bay (building murals, art exhibit, etc.)  National Estuary Program or similar (dunes protections exhibit)  Pacific Wildlife Care (rescue/animal welfare process exhibit)  Morro Coast Audubon Society or similar (plover exhibit)  Morro Bay in Bloom (native landscaping)
Bike Lane Completion from Morro Creek to Highway 1
Though not directly related to today's parcel negotiations, the frontage of these specific properties does make up a significant portion of the heavily cycled north/eastbound route from Morro Creek to Highway

1. Notably, as it pertains to the former sewer plant corner, eastbound cars tend to hug the sidewalk closely around a somewhat blind bend and risk potential collisions with cyclists. Please consider inexpensive street painting options to maximize bike and driver safety while minimizing costs until a longer-term plan is in place for the former sewer treatment site.

Thank you for your time and consideration of these items, Sean Green
Morro Bay, CA
