Dear Mayor Wixom and Council Members:
I am requesƟng that the City contract with Motorola, for the Automated License Plate Readers, be put on the next possible City Council agenda. I spent some Ɵme this weekend talking to local business owners and neighbors about the system currently in use. I was surprised and dismayed to learn that most people were unaware that Morro Bay was a part of this naƟonal system. Overwhelmingly, the folks who had knowledge regarding ALPR’s were not in favor, and signed a peƟƟon I have to put it on the agenda for consideraƟon. Others signed simply because they want to learn more, and want the opportunity to comment when it appears before the council. We are using a new technology with wide reaching implicaƟons. I feel that it is fair for the ciƟzens to be able to ask meaningful quesƟons regarding Morro Bay’s use of these cameras. I urge you all to do your own research on the implicaƟons of this type of surveillance system to see if you feel they accurately represent the values of Morro Bay.
Respecƞully,
Sydney

2 * Staff-Guided Feasibility Filter: Routing the advisory committee’s work through the City Manager ensures municipal staff and economic development experts provide real-time input on land-use constraints.
* Operational Flexibility and Efficiency: This committee is not subject to the strict procedural constraints of the Brown Act. This allows business leaders, developers, and residents to engage in collaborative, working-session-style meetings. This environment is ideal for evaluating financial models and moving rapidly toward a cohesive recommendation.
Thank You for your consideration of this input.
Ken MacMillan
2 Please, lock in a short window of time for the committee to perform, thus, a hard deadline for the committee’s final recommendations.
And quickly agendize for council to take action to move forward.
Let’s get something done.
Sincerely, I appreciate your time, consideration and service.
