2 Background
At the July 23, 2025 meeting, the City Council requested staff to explore signage options for informing the public about new development projects under construction.
The City currently does not require standardized public informational signage. We allow “future tenant” and “construction” signs, which are typically for marketing or lease purposes, not general community information.
The City already maintains a current projects webpage under “Project List & Map” (https://www.mountainhouseca.gov/departments/planning).
Background
4 • Requiring standardized public information signs at the start of construction could improve public awareness of development activity.
• Signs could include:
Discussion – Potential Content
5 Proposed Sign Content Notes
General Use Type e.g., “Retail,” “Multi-Family Residential” Approximate Size e.g., “____ Acres” or “____ Units”
Developer Contact Info Name, phone, email
Optional Completion Date e.g., “Spring 2026”
Discussion – Potential Considerations
Approach Description Pros Cons
A. Require Signage Add requirement to Standard
Plans/Conditions of Approval
Improves public
awareness; visible onsite
May not address specific
tenant questions; cost to
developer
B. No Signage Continue using Current
Projects webpage
No added cost or admin
work; centralized info
Less visibility for those
not visiting website
C. Combination Basic signage + detailed
webpage updates
Balanced approach;
multiple info channels
Developer bears signage
cost; still no tenant
details early on
Fiscal Impact
No cost to the City.
Developers would pay for signage.
Minimal staff time to confirm installation during inspections.
