Dear Honorable Council Members:
I am writing to you on behalf of the Mountain View Whisman School District’s Board of Trustees regarding the SRO program. We are aware of the letter written to you and the Public Safety Advisory Board (PSAB) on November 17, 2021 by our Superintendent, Dr. Ayinde Rudolph, in support of the Mountain View Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) program, and want to reinforce his message. I would also like to share some of the key themes in the feedback we’ve heard from some of the parents, students, and staff that have had the opportunity to work with individual SROs or have participated in the youth programs they coordinate.
First, as a school board, we appreciate the contributions and commitment of our School Resource Officers. The SROs in Mountain View are caring individuals who love working with kids, and their passion comes through in the work they do. Many MVWSD families have expressed their deep appreciation for the work they have undertaken over the years to support our children and the school community. In particular, many parents find SRO-facilitated programs like PAL Boxing and Dreams and Futures incredibly helpful and inspiring for their children. They would like to see these types of programs continue for their children.
We are grateful for the programming and believe that there is great potential for us to come together as community leaders to develop creative, collaborative approaches that maintain, and expand, the benefits to our community that the MVPD’s staff and programming provides. That is why we are so deeply thankful for the PSAB’s important work on this subject over the past few months. These community Attachment 3

Thank you for your time and service. As always, we look forward to working alongside the City Council and MVPD in support of our community, especially our youngest members. Respectfully, Laura Blakley President, MVWSD Board of Trustees
