TITLE: Youth Advisory Committee Member
Appointment
RECOMMENDATION
Appoint Shahana Rajasekaran to a vacancy on the Youth Advisory Committee for the 2023-24 school year term.
BACKGROUND
On June 13, 2023, the City Council approved the Council Youth Services Committee recommendation to appoint the following 15 members to the Youth Advisory Committee for the 2023-24 school year term:
Amy Galindo; Jade Tissera; Jasleen Sidhu; Meital Zayats; Natalie Chan; Nolan Murphy; Ryan Wang; Simon Braun; Ariana Motaghiannezam; Jayan Nair; Kaitlyn Byon; Leilani Montano; Ryan Jhin; Taylor Luna; and Victoria Ma
Additionally, the City Council also appointed the following 10 members at-large/alternates to the Youth Advisory Committee for the 2023-24 school year term:
Jiwoo Oh; Kaelyn Tan ; Kavya Wazhi ; Maya Sriram ; Naisha John ; Nico Martinez; Noah Beedon; Sarp Akalin; Shahana Rajasekaran; and Sophia Lew On July 17, 2023, Committee member Jasleen Sidhu resigned from the Youth Advisory Committee, which created a vacancy. Staff posted the special vacancy notice pursuant to Government Code § 54974 and Council Policy K- 2 on July 24, 2023. During the posting period, no new applications were received for the vacancy. Staff interviewed two current at-large members who expressed interest in filling the vacancy. Based upon the level of engagement of each of the interested
members, staff recommends the City Council appoint Shahana Rajasekaran to fill the vacancy. Ms. Rajasekaran has been an at-large member for two terms and has expressed desire for a leadership position with the Youth Advisory Committee.
