RESOLUTION NO.

SERIES 2024

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOUNTAIN VIEW RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 17420 AND DISSOLVING THE SENIOR ADVISORY

COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, on June 23, 2009, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 17420 establishing the Senior Advisory Committee (SAC or Committee) to serve in an advisory capacity on matters pertaining to the broader senior issues and the operation of the Mountain View Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, on September 24, 2024, the City Council directed staff to return to Council with a review of the SAC, evaluating the current state of the membership and body of work and any challenges, and provide a recommendation on whether or not the SAC should be sunset or taken in a different direction; and
WHEREAS, the SAC has faced significant challenges in attracting and retaining qualified members, which has hindered the Committee’s ability to fulfill its role effectively; and WHEREAS, over the past three years, the SAC has consistently experienced challenges in maintaining a quorum, resulting in the cancellation of meetings and impacting the Committee’s progress on its work plan; and
WHEREAS, the SAC’s scope of work and deliverables have been limited by ongoing challenges with member engagement, reducing the overall impact and effectiveness of the Committee; and
WHEREAS, if the City Council or other advisory bodies require senior input, staff may coordinate tabling or workshop opportunities at the Senior Center to facilitate senior engagement on specific City matters or limited -period task forces to provide input on a specific topic may be created; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission may also be engaged should a more formal review of Senior Center programs and services be necessary; and WHEREAS, the dissolution of the SAC would allow for the reallocation of staff resources and funding currently supporting the Committee to further support updating and distributing Senior Resource Guides and expanding the existing senior workshop program; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED: that the City Council of the City of Mountain View hereby rescinds Resolution No. 17420 and dissolves the Senior Advisory Committee, effective immediately; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED: that this Resolution shall be effective upon the date of its adoption.
