I'm writing to encourage you to appoint IdaRose Sylvester to the Environmental Planning Commission. I have known her since 2017 when we both served in leadership positions on the second Mtn. View Environmental Sustainability Task Force (ESTF-2).
IdaRose led one of the Task Force's five Working Groups: "Outreach, Regional Collaboration and Advocacy" or ORCA. ORCA was an especially effective group, and one of its recommendations -- for the City to create a new Chief Sustainability Office -- led to the hiring of Danielle Lee, which has been a triumph for the City's sustainability efforts.
Her experience in doing community outreach (as part of ESTF-2, the HRC, and while campaigning) will be of great benefit to the EPC if you select her.
I am confident that she understands the time commitment being on EPC requires. I'm also sure that she will treat her colleagues with respect no matter whether or not they agree on any particular issue. This will help the Commission be more effective in reaching timely decisions and providing well thought out guidance to the City Council.

Dear Mayor Kamei and City Council members:
I am writing to enthusiastically endorse IdaRose Sylvester for appointment to the Environmental Planning Commission (EPC). I have worked with her in a volunteer capacity for the Environmental Sustainability Task Force-2 (ESTF-2) and the Mountain View Coalition for Sustainable Planning (MVCSP) for over 10 years. Her ability to listen objectively to different perspectives and collaborate with her colleagues would be important virtues on the EPC.
IdaRose was the lead author for the ESTF-2 recommendation for the Office of Sustainability. Her ability to listen and formulate elements of the recommendation that has now been successfully implemented is a testament to her leadership and inclusionary skills.
IdaRose has been a regular member of MVCSP for years. We often have developers present their plans for input before they go to the EPC and City Council. IdaRose’s ability to ask thoughtfuld and informed questions is also a skill that would add significant value to the EPC.
Finally, IdaRose has been particularly effective in making sure that all of the very diverse voices in our community are heard. She cares a great deal about the quality of life for all Mountain View residents. She would be a very valuable addition to the EPC! Sincerely,
