Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
While a member of BPAC I am sending these comments as an individual member of the community.
When BPAC reviewed the CIPs for the next 5 years, I inquired about some ECR intersections that seemed missing from the plan. (San Antonio, Showers, Ortega, Rengstorff, Clark...) as all of them were identified in the El Camino StreetScape plan adopted in 2019 (including rough cost estimates for the missing intersections) (see: https://www.mountainview.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/2546/637958118201430000) The answer shared during the BPAC meeting was that subsequent to the StreetScape plan, the City realized that these intersections were controlled by Los Altos and hence removed from consideration.
While it's true that these portions of ECR are technically part of Los Altos, this didn't prevent Caltrans and the City from building bike lanes (another part of the El Camino Real Streetscape Plan) on these sections of ECR.
Regardless of who "owns" these intersections, they are used by your residents every single day to take the VTA buses or
to go to school (all these missing intersections are route to schools - Los Altos High School and for North of El Camino/LASD residents Almond, Santa Rita and Egan).
It is worth noting that many of these intersections serve the poorest US Census tracts in Mountain View.
I am writing to ask you to put these intersections back into some CIPs And once there, revisit the priorities between ALL these intersections. All these intersections are important but as it stands a large number of ECR intersections will not have anything scheduled for the next FIVE years (if ever :() Sincerely,
Serge Bonte
