SUBJECT: Safe Routes to School Final Report FY 2024-2025
RECOMMENDATION
Receive the final report for Mountain View’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25.
BACKGROUND
The Safe Routes to School program was created in 2011. Over the years, the program has grown more robust. Staff reports annually to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and this year staff committed to providing an end-of-year status update to CTC on the program.
On May 3, 2022, staff provided an update on the program for FY 2021- 22 to the Council Transportation Committee (CTC). CTC provided feedback to foster partnerships with schools and school districts, and to coordinate with the City of Los Altos, ensuring that Mountain View students attending schools in Los Altos receive the same SRTS education. Staff incorporated this feedback into the program.
On May 23, 2023, the City Council approved a three-year contract with NN Engineering (with Safe Moves as a subconsultant) for SRTS services for the FY 2023-24, FY 24-25 and FY 25-26.
BPAC received the SRTS FY 2019 –23 Final Report on March 7, 2024, and the FY 2023 –24 Final Report on March 11, 2025. The reports documented SRTS activities, including safety training, bike rodeos, suggested route maps, and summaries of student and parent surveys. On May 28, 2025, BPAC received a comprehensive program update on recent activities, program evaluation and structure.
