Dear Chair and Members of the Committee,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the public draft of the Mountain View Active Transportation Plan (ATP). The District reviewed the draft along with the supporting Existing Conditions Report. The Board strongly supports the adoption of this plan. City staff conducted an inclusive, multi-year development process, and the recommendations reflect what our students, families, and staff experience on the ground. Thank you for the vision and dedication required to achieve and implement such long-term change.

This letter highlights District priorities among the projects and presents further considerations to improve the experience for the children and families we both serve.

Highlighted Projects :

The City prioritized many projects that serve our schools, showing its commitment to genuine partnership: California, Latham, Latham/Church, and Escuela for Castro/Mistral Dana, Evelyn for Landels; W Middlefield for Crittenden, Monta Loma and Theuerkauf; Whisman Rd and its named cycle-track improvements for Vargas; Miramonte for Graham and Mountain View High School; Phyllis for Imai and Graham.

The formal weight given to the needs of children in the scoring criteria ensured our students received needed attention in the ATP.

The ATP also makes Safe Routes to School (SRTS) a cornerstone of transportation, expanding Safe Routes to Parks and Transit. The ATP commits to quickly implementing clear operational tools that support families and students, e.g. Leading Pedestrian Intervals, AB 413 daylighting, and school-zone speed enforcement.

A foundation of excellence. A future of achievement. ™ mvwsd.org
