SAN FRANCISCO ESTUARY INSTITUTE SCOPE OF SERVICES
San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) will provide the following services related to the development of a web-based tree selection tool for the City of Mountain View (City).

SCOPE OF SERVICES
Task: Develop an Interactive Tree Selection Tool
Total budget: $150,000
Project objective: Develop a user-friendly, web-based tree selection tool (“tool”) to allow users to identify recommended tree species based on tree selection criteria. The tool will use the guidelines, species recommendations, and associated selection criteria from Guide B: Plant Lists (“Guide B”) of the Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan (“Plan”).

Project timing: For the purposes of this scope, we have assumed a 2-year project, starting November 2026 and ending October 2028.

SFEI project responsibilities:
● Organize a database with the recommended tree species and associated selection criteria from the tree lists in Guide B of the Plan into a format that feeds directly into the tool. Tree selection criteria included are currently published in the Guide B updated city tree list: tree height, spread, and relative size; growth rate; water needs; growth strategy; root damage potential; minimum required growing space; California native status; and notes on pest, pathogen, and stress susceptibility.
● Develop the tool with input from City staff to support its eventual linkage from the City's website.
● Host the tool for an interim period, with plans to eventually transfer ownership and stewardship to the City.
● Participate as a member in three (3) two-hour Working Group meetings with City staff and other Working Group members (subject-matter experts, and stakeholders). The City will establish the Working Group and plan, facilitate, and host the meetings.

Deliverables:
● A user-friendly, web-based tree selection tool for use by City staff and the public, hosted by SFEI in the interim and eventually transferred to the City. ● A database of tree species and associated selection criteria that feeds into the tool. ● Participation in three (3) two-hour working group meetings hosted by the City.
