PROJECT TITLE
Murrieta Public Library's eBooks for All

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Describe what you will do, how you will do it, what you aim to achieve, why, and for whom. (Word limit: 300).

Project Description Response
We are a community of 117,000 people with one 25,000 sq. ft. Library and a collection development budget of $125,000 (2022-23). We serve a large population of young families, commuters, retirees, special needs groups, homeschool families, and students. We average 1,200 visits per day and circulate approximately 350,000 items per year. The Murrieta Public Library has been part of the eBooks for All: Palace Project since 2022 and has made the platform available to the community. The Library seeks to apply for $40,000 in grant funding (with matched funding of $5,000) to purchase eBooks for the Palace Project App. Since the pandemic and library closure in 2020 and 2021, the Library has seen the demand for an increase in eBook and eAudiobooks in the community. The Library is looking for ways to expand and diversify its collection, reach more people in the community, and keep up with the digital access demands of library users.

This project will contribute to the Library’s efforts to provide exceptional services and a vibrant learning environment and its work to continually improve its offerings better to serve all segments of Murrieta’s diverse community.

Our goal is to address our community's need for an increase in digital access to library materials.

Despite our limited collection development budget, we continue to advocate for more local funding and apply for grants that will allow us to provide a robust eBook and eAudiobook collection to our community. By joining the eBooks for All: Palace Project and sharing resources we are addressing our community's needs for more digital materials. With more funding, we will be able to customize our collection based on our community's needs and offer more locally relevant materials while at the same time supporting other libraries in the project by expanding the overall collection.

Equity-Based Community Involvement Response
The EDIB principles have guided the Murrieta Public Library’s planning, implementation, and evaluation of the expansion of our eBooks collection by focusing on promoting access for all, community outreach, and involvement. Expanding our eBook collection and offering more ways to access information will help us further our advocacy for equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging by removing expense and knowledge barriers for all residents. We hope that by being part of the statewide collection, we will meet our goal of providing equity-based services and addressing our community's need for more eBooks and eAudiobook access.
