Subject: Public Hearing Notice: Appeal 2024-00003 Development Plan Permit Absolutely opposed to this permit. When you can’t drive 15 min for 10 a mile trip to see your family on a Sunday (Murrieta to Temecula) without a 30 min delay for traffic, there’s a problem. Quality of Life has suffered greatly since we moved to this valley. That is primarily due to the lack of infrastructure keeping up with growth. There were 35,000 people in Murrieta when we moved here. Now, 110,000 and admittedly the infrastructure is making big moves to catch up. But none of those would have helped my Southbound commute to see my children two weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon (with no accidents contributing).
These UN Agenda 2030 mandates that come down to you via our state governments are not in our best interests. At some point, you have to push back and this project is a line in the sand. Please stop! Freeze growth until we can adequately allow for the movement of all these people that want to join our neighborhoods. "Orange County II" has been manifesting here for many years. We the people, don’t want that or we would have settled there.
There are tens of thousands of us that have to awake at 0330 each work day, just to make it down the I-15 without an impactful traffic situation wasting hours of our lives. It is ridiculous! This project will further exasperate that situation, in addition to the weekend impact already noted. Ever tried to commute N. on the I-15/215 on a Friday afternoon? I remember the afternoon that the I-15 backed up the first time, coming down the hill from the Border Patrol checkpoint. It was 2003, just after school started that August. I thought there was an accident but no. There were none. The next day - same thing. And it has been this way ever since. It’s been long enough! Those responsible have not been held to account, but that tide is changing - quickly.
Stop the growth and have some compassion for those of us who have supported this town for decades. You should be thinking of us as you vote on this project.
Respectfully,
Wes Sanders

Subject: Planning Commission comment
This comment is in regards to the 387 additional apartment units that are planned for the corner of Jefferson and Marietta Hot Springs. I think you need to put a moratorium on further apartment development in this area you basically now created a mass amount of apartment dwellings versus single-family homes, which we all moved here to be part of a single-family home community and you’ve changed that thus changing the demographic, the voting, demographic, etc. plus the infrastructure has not kept up to the volume of people that you’re bringing in. This is getting insane as people who have been here for 12 years I’ve seen the traffic on Washington, basically triple to what it is today it’s insane. This is not what we want in our community. You should already be forcing the developers to put in additional infrastructure, not putting it on to the taxpayers of the community. I would love to hear a reasonable response from somebody there about this. Thank you.

I have concerns about the project on the corner of Jefferson and Murrieta Hot Springs. I feel a new traffic study should be done after the two large complexes down the street are fully occupied. At least delay the project, until after the two large complexes down the street are fully occupied and then get a new traffic study.
Thank you

Subject: City clerk, correspondence for the planning commission Please do NOT build any apartments on the planned vacant Murrieta lot. (Murrieta Hot Springs and Jefferson). Besides all the extra water that would take to house all those people. The traffic is already horrible in the area.
We already have a lot of apartments being built in Murrieta as I write this. Those apartments alone will cause our traffic to become worse than it already is. Enough is enough! From Jamie Calvert Murrieta resident

Hello
My name is Jennifer Mekkelsen and I have been a resident of Murrieta since 2004. I purchased my home in 2009. I greatly disapprove of the new apartment complex being planned on Murrieta hot springs and Jefferson and any additional apartment complex in Murrieta in the future. We are not a big metropolitan city. We do not have the roads or infrastructure for this kind of growth, nor do we want it. Traffic is already horrendous from 6am through 8pm. The freeways are a mess. We do not have enough police officers. The roads all need to by widened. The Scholls cannot handle the increase in students. Thompson middle is completely full. Try driving by these skills during drop off or pick up, it's insane and super unsafe. Part reconsider and disapprove this project. Don't make Murrieta Los Angeles, please ! Subject: For Planning Commission - 387 Apartment Complex Good Evening,
I would like to express my opposition to yet another apartment complex proposed, this time at Murrieta Hot Springs and Jefferson. The Planning Commission members are not listening or paying attention to the will of the community, the actual people that live here in Murrieta. We do not want multiple apartment buildings in this great city. We have enough, we are not lacking in apartment buildings. We are seeing our city turned into another large, urban city. Many of us fled big cities and moved to Murrieta because of its appeal of being a small town and less busy, not to mention, affordable housing. Now we are seeing our city unable to keep up with the demands of its growth. Attention and improvements need to take priority on the increased traffic we are experiencing just trying to get through Murrieta Hot Springs, Los Alamos, Clinton Keith and others. What used to take 10 minutes has turned into 30-45 minutes or more depending on the time of day.
This Planning Commission is doing a huge disservice to this community. Perhaps we need people on this commission that will listen to the residents and not plan projects that go against the will of the people.
I strongly oppose the 387 unit apartment complex or any other new apartment complex in the city of Murrieta. There is a greater need for apartments in the French Valley areas, not here.
Thank you,
Joanie Wdowiak

Subject: New apartment complex on the corner of Jefferson and Murrieta Hot Springs Dear Planning Commission,
As a resident and homeowner of Murrieta since 1992, we have seen a lot of development in the city in our 32 years here.
I’m very concerned about this new proposed apartment complex for the following reasons:
There are at least 5 new apartment complexes currently under construction in Murrieta, most of them are in close proximity to old town which is where we live. The traffic is already horrendous trying to return home from working in San Diego, as well as driving around town at busy times. Adding another 387 apartments to all the ones already under construction will only add to the congestion.
With all of these new apartment complexes, what infrastructure has been added to the city to support all of these additional residents and vehicles? We moved to Murrieta for safety and quality of life and have been very blessed to live here the past three decades. I’m afraid by cramming so many more people into the city in such a short time, and many of them being a transient population of renters, is sure to change the dynamics of living here. People who buy property tend to have more of a stake in a community, while renters tend to have less because it’s easy to come and go.
I ask you to oppose this additional high density development to help maintain our quality of life here in Murrieta.
Respectfully,
Joe Ranalli

NO NO NO please don't do this. Too many apartment complexes going up in Murrieta. You are only setting us up for high crime. If you don't believe me just take a look at New Yorks apartment complexes. Los Angeles apartment communities. And any other city where there are a lot of apartments. Please stop the building of apartments in Murrieta before its too late. I moved here because of the low crime stats. That will soon change. Please save Murrieta.
Sincerely,
Linda J. Ortega

Dear Members of the Planning Commission,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed development of new apartments in our community. As a resident who deeply cares about the well-being and sustainability of our neighborhood, I believe that this development would have numerous negative impacts on our community.
First and foremost, the proposed apartment complex would exacerbate existing traffic congestion in the area. Our streets are already heavily congested during peak hours, and adding more residents to the area would only make the situation worse. Increased traffic not only leads to longer commute times for residents but also poses safety hazards for pedestrians and cyclists.
Furthermore, the proposed development fails to address the strain it would place on our local infrastructure. Our schools, parks, and other public amenities are already stretched thin, and adding a large number of new residents would only further strain these resources. Without adequate investment in infrastructure improvements, our quality of life would suffer.
In addition, the proposed apartment complex does not align with the character of our neighborhood. Our community prides itself on its low-density residential areas and green spaces, which contribute to a sense of tranquility and cohesion among residents. Introducing a large-scale apartment complex would disrupt this balance and diminish the unique charm of our neighborhood.
I urge the Planning Commission to carefully consider the concerns of local residents and reject the proposed development. Instead, I encourage you to explore alternative solutions that prioritize sustainable growth and preservation of our community's character. By working together, we can ensure that our neighborhood remains a vibrant and desirable place to live for generations to come.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Amanda Reed

Subject: Planning Commission/ Proposed apartments in Murrieta This email is sent to voice my displeasure with the proposal of more high-density apartments going up on Murrieta Hot Springs and Jefferson. Our city's traffic is already an issue; one that is not being seriously addressed. I can't even imagine how much more congested it will be when you add over 700 cars on our roads! Please consider those who have lived here for several years and have seen the uptick in residences without any forethought to roads, schools, services, etc. We need more choices for groceries. We need more restaurants. We need stores to come to Murrieta instead of Temecula and Menifee. We do not need more storage facilities and car washes. We need better infrastructure BEFORE adding more people and cars! Thank you for your time,
Melissa Russell

So sorry, but I also wanted to add that this development so far has not addressed the issue of the mandate from the City to reduce solid trash waste. I have not seen or heard anything that would address this. It appears that the developer is merely providing space for large dumpsters. That also would not be consistent with the City plan.
Thank you.

Authorizing the building of high-density residential apartments on a commercial site. Please explain how this is within the City plan. To me it is just the opposite, using a commercial site for high-density residential apartments. Furthermore, two-thirds of the apartments will not be very suitable for senior housing which is desperately needed in Murrieta due to the lack of elevators in three-story buildings. This project does not serve the best interests of the City of Murrieta, its residents, and/or its future as it is a drain on resources (all utilities including water and sewage) providing no advantages to our community. --
