Please describe how any items requested through this project will expand access within your communities, including how they will promote equity for underserved populations.

Within our library community we believe it is important to lead by example ways that our community can self-sustain by assisting the most vulnerable populations. Sustainability in the modern age means focusing not only on the environmental impact of our library but the community impact. We are dedicated to finding solutions that will help our users become empowered. We can do this through offering an environment with tools and resources that assist our library community with finding success in whatever they attempt to do.

By having a safe, accessible space for job interviews through usage of the privacy booths, our local library can do its part in reducing the poverty rate in Murrieta. This equitable space allows for all our community members to have the agency to improve their lives despite any situational deterrents like lack of privacy or internet access. For people who are pursuing various endeavors, finding a quiet place to attend an important interview, medical appointment, online meeting, create voice recordings/presentations, or any number of tasks that require a private and quiet environment can be challenging. Assisting in self-sufficiency is imperative in helping the disabled, homeless, and other vulnerable populations in our community, and the library can provide the agency for people to do what they need to do to thrive.

Additionally, by providing solar chargers, we can inspire the community to do better for our local environment. Adding devices such as these to our circulating Library of Things collection will allow library users from every background to access power in a sustainable way. Our impoverished population may not have access to resources for environmental consciousness, but by providing these resources we can demonstrate the importance and ease of using products that help the environment. Others who are cost conscience and hesitant to invest in solar power devices will have the opportunity to try them out and find if this form of sustainable energy works for them and their lifestyle.

Allowance of these items will assist in our determination to lead the way in sustainability through equitability in Murrieta.
