ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATE
Senior Program Manager, Brian Crawford, presented a slideshow on the Children's Library Expansion Update, detailing the progress made so far, the three building options that are going before City Council on June 18, 2024, as well as information on fundraising.

Chair Meeker asked questions about funding and City Council. Vice Chair Goltara asked staff what they think Council will want and also commented on a makerspace. Vice Chair Goltara asked how easy would it be to add a makerspace if the recommended Option B is approved by Council. Melvin mentioned that the current Lab could be an option. Commissioner Macias asked about plans to grow even more in the future, specifically how to expand to include sensory spaces. A future possibility could be a satellite or mobile library, or book lockers. Vice Chair Goltara asked about bringing a makerspace to the local schools. Melvin stated that more outreach could be done once construction starts as the staff would likely have more time.

Library Manager, Melvin Racelis, gave an update on the Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) programs, noting that more information is on the Library's web page. There are currently 1,502 patrons registered for SRC. There is an upcoming American Library Association (ALA) annual conference in San Diego at the end of the month and three Library staff members, Agnes, Kathryn and Ashley, will be giving presentations. The Library received a grant from the California State Library which provided a privacy booth for patrons to use, as well as ten (10) solar chargers that can be checked out. Another grant, Lunch at the Library, provided $11,700 from the California State Library. The Library has also applied for another Zip Books grant for FY 24/25. The annual In-N-Out reading incentive program ran for six weeks with 430 participants. Laura Davis, Adult Services Librarian, has retired and the recruitment for her replacement has begun and the position will focus on Teen Services. There are also two part-time Page positions being recruited for. Lastly, staff is working with the Murrieta Public Library Foundation on fundraising for the expansion project.
