CITY OF NAPA PROCLAMATION
Recognizing the Month of June as Pride Month
June 2022
WHEREAS, the month of June is recognized as Pride Month in celebration of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and asexual people, plus all other sexual orientations and genders, generally referred to as “LGBTQ+”; and WHEREAS, Pride Month provides an opportunity to unite in solidarity and common purpose to recognize, honor and celebrate the diversity, shared humanity and civil rights of our community, as well as acknowledge the continuing discrimination LGBTQ+ people face to raise awareness to these issues and encourage inclusiveness; and WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ members are our neighbors, family members, friends, employees, faith-community members, and community leaders, and they play important roles in helping to shape many aspects of life in Napa; and WHEREAS, each of us were born into the world the way we are and everyone should be able to live without fear of prejudice, discrimination, violence, and hatred based on our race, gender identity or sexual orientation; and WHEREAS, the City of Napa is committed to fostering a healthy, diverse and inclusive community where we affirm our neighbors, celebrate our differences, and create a safer, more welcoming community for all to thrive.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Scott Sedgley, Mayor of the City of Napa, along with the City Council, do hereby recognize June 2022 as “Pride Month” in the City of Napa and call upon all residents to celebrate LGBTQ+ people, to recognize their hard-fought gains for equal and fair treatment, and honor the many ways in which they contribute to the culture and social fabric our local Napa Community.
