It seems that some outdoor art work like we see in Yountville would be great at

the community center on Linda Vista Ave. The garden areas have been redone

and updated and adding the art would really update the property.

Must we have an art installation near our very confusing roundabout? I drive through that area often and with so many opportunities for vehicles to enter and exit it requires total concentration. Put the "art" somewhere else

I jus posed this in the safety section on Next Door: Do you want this in our new roundabout? If you have concerns about disracting artwork being placed in our already confusing triad roundabout leading into downtown Napa, contact City council…

Dear Scott,
Please do not block a 24' tall green neon plastic cactus statue in the middle of our 3 roundabout complex. I have seen near accidents occurring many times since I pass through at least twice a day. It is not iconic of the Napa Valley entrance nor the city of Napa for tourists or for locals! It is not only laughable; it is dangerous.

Thank you,
Pamela Jackson

Roundabout Art

I would like to voice my concern for traffic safety with the proposed installation of the giant green “art”? structure in the 1 st
St.
roundabout.

It will only add to the already dangerous driving situation with people trying to navigate and being distracted by that bright green structure.

I won’t go further with my opinion of the piece itself but perhaps a beautiful tree would be inviting, safe and environmentally beneficial.

W.5SW WPi^(tecl6leya"d Council Members,
I am here regarding the public art for the 1st Street round about. I am sure that the City had good intentions regarding placing a public art piece at this location but in my opinion, it is a bad idea.

American drivers are just beginning to understand and learn how to navigate round abouts. Round abouts have many advantages over signaled intersections. They are less costly, more time efficient and on average much safer. For decades other countries have instituted round abouts with success. With few exceptions, they do not have distracting elements that could confuse drivers.

This past weekend we drove through 6 different round abouts in Truckee. They have used landscaping that allows drivers to have good visualization of the other cars entering and leaving.

Our 1st Street round about is fairly compact with several routes. As I understand, the effort to place a public art piece at this location has generated three options. All of these art pieces are inappropriate for this location. The very tail railroad rails has little to commend it. The shorter colorful animal structure includes few Napa County animals.

The approved piece, a 24" two story high, neon green lighted "cactus" is probably the worst due to its significant driver distraction capability.

I like the idea and plan to have public art in our community. Family friendly pedestrian locations are optimal for both enjoyment and enrichment. Having something along a straight stretch of 29 coming into town might work as an invitation. Our new round abouts are not where this effort should occur. Injury and Liability could happen.

Drought tolerant landscaping is the answer.

Thank you for your hard work for our community. Francie From:

roundabout sculptures

I think the idea of putting sculptures in roundabouts is simply ridiculous.

I have no problem
with placing them in parks, buildings

etc. where they can be properly admired, but where
drivers are supposed to be paying attention to the road, no way.

I might add that I have been a
museum docent for many years and am no way against any form of art - just not in a roundabout!

How about flowers instead?
sincerely,
Harriet Spitz
