CITY OF NAPA

PROCLAMATION
Week of the Young Child
April 5-11
WHEREAS, every year, thanks to the great work of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and that of their affiliate agencies, jurisdictions across the nation dedicate a week in April to celebrating young children, their families, and caregivers through themed days and a host of activities; and WHEREAS, the NAEYC is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age eight, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. They work to advance a diverse and dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children; and WHEREAS, the City of Napa’s Parks and Recreation Department supports this collective vision; one that all young children thrive and learn through the numerous educational and recreational programs provided year-round by the City of Napa; and WHEREAS, early childhood educators and others in our community who make a difference in the lives of young children deserve thanks, recognition, and support; and WHEREAS, public policies that support early learning for all young children are crucial to our City of Napa families, communities, and economy; and WHEREAS, high-quality early care and education can help reduce the effects of poverty, detect and remediate delays, identify and help prevent child neglect, and lead to positive outcomes for individual children, helping them be better prepared for school and more likely to succeed in life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Scott Sedgley, Mayor of the City of Napa, along with the City Council, do hereby recognize April 5-11, 2025 as the “Week of the Young Child”. We call upon all community groups, businesses, organizations, educators and members of the community to continue to support efforts that increase children and families’ access to high-quality early childhood education and care.
