Napa Farmers Market Week
August 3 - 9, 2025
WHEREAS, 37 California farmers and 65 food makers provide thousands of Napa residents with access to nutritious, locally, and regionally cultivated foods through the Napa Farmers Market which is the only California Certified Farmers Market in the City of Napa; and WHEREAS, the Napa Farmers Market serves as a significant outlet for 138 small-to-medium farmers, food and artisan makers, including 64 Napa-based farmers and businesses, to sell their goods directly to customers in our community, and provides many local business start-ups with their first retail presence; and WHEREAS, in the past five years, the customer count has increased 155%, welcoming approximately 168,000 people annually including 125,000 visits by Napa locals. And, vendor participation has increased 95%, demonstrating the value and economic benefit for the whole community of having the Napa Farmers Market located in the heart of Downtown Napa; and WHEREAS, since 2020, the Napa Farmers Market’s food assistance programs have grown by 92%, and in 2024 supported 685 local families with over $124,000 to purchase fruits and vegetables, including donated produce that was used to create over 22,000 meals at the South Napa Shelter ensuring more equitable access to farm fresh fruits and vegetables; and WHEREAS, the City of Napa recognizes the importance of the Napa Farmers Market as a nonprofit organization that stimulates local business development and job creation; builds community connections through direct-to-consumer relationships; assists and encourages the next generation of farmers and small business entrepreneurs; expands community awareness of agricultural diversity including sustainable and regenerative land management practices; and helps to ensure that all Napa residents have access to fresh and nutritious, locally produced food.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Scott Sedgley, Mayor of the City of Napa, along with the Napa City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of August 3 - 9, 2025, as Napa Farmers Market Week, in conjunction with the observance of National Farmers Market Week. I call upon our community to stand together with the Napa Farmers Market in their mission of supporting local farmers and small businesses, while providing an inclusive place to purchase farm-fresh, sustainably grown produce, specialty foods and artisan goods directly from the source.
