Well Siting Study in National City
5 • Sweetwater Authority operates 14 regionally-unique groundwater production wells in National City and Northwest Chula Vista • Additional brackish groundwater well would support operational reliability
• Obtained an approximately $800,000 grant from CA Department of Water Resources for the study
• Well siting study identified candidate sites for a ~6-week test well to determine quality and quantity of water produced at a site

6 Stein Farm
Desalination
Facility
• Stein Farm one of top-ranked sites
considered
• Authority has had an easement at Stein
Farm for an existing monitoring well since
1993
• Test well would include noise abatement
barriers, notifications to neighbors
• Surface restored after test
• Minimized impact to facility operations
Next Steps
7 • Test well planned to start June 17
• If results show the site is suitable for
production, Authority will request to
amend existing easement to allow for a
possible production well at Stein Farm
and permitting for transmission pipe
• A new production well would be a
valuable asset to National City to reduce
dependence on costly imported water
supply
