Can we add these notes to the public comments ?
To whom it may concern:
At Best Western Plus Marina Gateway hotel, we take great pride in welcoming the community, the general public and visitors from all over the world. We literally call ourselves the gateway to National City because of our proximity to America’s finest, San Diego and the US-Mexican border.
With that being said, the hotel has an image to maintain in order to continue welcoming guests at a time where travel to San Diego and National City is necessary in order to continue developing our great city to what great potential it has. We don't want to be known as the nasty city, as many locals call it.
When staying at our hotel and exiting the freeway the first thing you see is a small mini homeless encampment right off the freeway, which is on CalTrans property- we even adopted the highway to minimize and make the freeway look as beautiful as ever so that our guests' first impression stay positive as you get to our hotel.
Unfortunately, we are embarrassed of our signage at the base of the encampment.
On the south border, we have the Paradise Marsh/Sweetwater marsh, which is now overrun by homeless and repeat offenders- they are quite literally walking through our parking lot and while they do that are attempting to break into vehicles and take anything that they can, that is of value. The number of times they approach guests and make them feel unsafe or uncomfortable has gotten out of control, as well as the break-ins and theft that are occurring on a daily basis at our hotel.
We take great pride in catering to our community and are looking forward to a lot of the partnerships that are being created with local businesses in the area, but if this issue is not controlled, it will only get worse and it has! The graffiti in the area alone has also increased which does not assist in creating a good image of our hotel.
I have also included photos for review, and it has become a safety issue. Late last year, one of the inhabitants of the marsh set the hotel on fire! Please assist us in maintaining the last few good parts of National City!
