Hi there,
My name is Paul, and I would like to submit my public comment.
I am the Outreach Strategist at Deaf Community Services. We are a nonprofit organization that provides life development resources to people who are Deaf and are facing language deprivation.
I am making this public comment to ask for help with purchasing a new $500 LED light set for our video production effort, where everything will be spoken in American Sign Language, better known as "ASL".
It is important that our videos are fully in ASL because we serve a population of Deaf people who are more able to understand the structure that is used in ASL, compared to the structure that is used in everyday spoken English. With that divide creating a type of language deprivation, we've identified that our Deaf community members are not actually able to fully access information from things like community news and city alerts.
As a solution, we've been producing videos for our knowledgebase and social media using ASL to disseminate information. However, we do need new lights to enhance the visibility of our videos. That is why I am asking the council for help. The new lights will help us enhance our ASL videos as we continue to make information accessible for people who are Deaf, and ASL being their primary language.
We are also looking to use these new lights to collaborate with the city and other nonprofit organizations to share information and connect with the community.
Thank you,
Paul Sao

Subject: Fuel Transfer Station on West 18th

City Council Members & Planning Department,
The proposed Fuel Transfer Station on West 18th is not good for our city & its residents. We already have too much diesel pollution from the portside trucks and adding an extra 70 diesel trucks around the clock is a step in the wrong direction.
I live about 7 streets from I 5 but close enough to experience diesel pollution from the port side. My front windows have a constant breeze from the bay, which is a blessing except when the diesel smell fills my house around 3:00 pm (if the windows are open).
I'm very much against adding another facility to increase air pollution. Our community has been designated a Portside Environmental Justice neighborhood because of the poor air quality.
I am a homeowner and very concerned about our city.
Sincerely,
Ricardo & Renee Rodriguez
