TITLE: Budget Amendment to Appropriate a Donation from the Dorothy Arens Ressel Trust to the Library's Fiscal Year 2024-25 Library Materials Budget
ABSTRACT:
Staff requests approval of a budget amendment to appropriate funds previously received from the Dorothy Arens Ressel Trust to enhance the collection of the Newport Beach Public Library (Library).
RECOMMENDATIONS:
a) Determine this action is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to Sections 15060(c)(2) and 15060(c)(3) of the CEQA Guidelines because this action will not result in a physical change to the environment, directly or indirectly; and
b) Approve Budget Amendment No. 25-025 to increase revenue in account number 01060005-561005 by $15,737.06 and increase expenditures by the same amount in account number 01060005-841052.
DISCUSSION:
A donation from the Dorothy Arens Ressel Trust, in the amount of $15,737.06, is intended to fund materials and was approved by the Board of Library Trustees.
Newport Beach resident Dorothy Arens Ressel left a share of her estate to the Library.
This gift will be used to augment the Library's collections at all locations, in all formats, and for all age groups. The Board of Library Trustees approved acceptance of this donation at its October 21, 2024 meeting.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Budget Amendment appropriates $15,737.06 in additional revenue from the Dorothy Arens Ressel Trust and $15,737.06 in increased expenditure appropriations with no impact on fund balance. The revenue will be posted to the Private Donation/Contributions account in the Library Services Department, 01060005-561005, and the purchase will be expensed to the Library Materials account in the Library Services Department, 01060005- 841052.
