Dear Mr. Webb and City Council,
In anticipation of the May 12 discussion, I wish to again express my opposition to the proposed new police station location at the Civic Center sculpture park. This location should be taken permanently off the docket - I am convinced it would not serve the best interests or the well-being of this City's residents. Please study the other locations raised, instead. I am staggered at the blatant pro-developer for-profit stance apparent in the last year or so, among the members of the City Council. I implore you to please listen to the wishes of all community members.
Sincerely,
Niall Saunders

Dear Mr. Webb,
I am unable to attend today's session in person, but wish to express my opinion, as a long term NB resident and business owner.
I believe the new facility would be appropriate in any of the optional locations, EXCEPT at the Civic Center Park. That park is the only public open space in Fashion Island and should not be impacted in any way. It is unique and beautiful and cannot be replaced.
If possible, please add my voice to the public comments.
Thank you,
Sincerely,

Dear Newport Beach city council,
I'm writing to express my concern over the proposed plan to build police station in Newport Beach Civic Center Park.
The park is an excellent representation of the critically endangered coastal sage scrub habitat and draws many visitors to the city from the entire region, bringing more foot traffic to local businesses as well as positive attention to Newport Beach. In addition, urban open green space is extremely rare and valuable for the community's well-being, and I would think any forward-thinking city council would be finding ways to expand, not demolish it.
While the need for an upgraded, central police station is clear, there are many better alternatives that would not require demolishing a beloved park that nurtures both the community and the environment. I urge you to discard this ill-conceived, short-sighted plan. No one wants to be known as the city council that destroyed the homes of countless birds and butterflies and took away local children's chances to connect with nature.
Thank you for your consideration,
Julia Meng

I was resident in Newport Beach for forty years and support maintaining the park as an open green area for the people of Newport. Too many of our politicians hope that time will dull people’s memory of promises to them.
Please republish for all to see the mitigation promises made when this land was developed for the civic center.

Hi,
I heard that Newport Beach is considering building a new police station on part of the site of the current Civic Center Park. Please reconsider and select a different site! Although I reside in Costa Mesa, I've enjoyed multiple visits over the years to the park, and it truly stands out as a unique resource. It's a lovely space, the public art is fantastic, and most of all the variety of native plants makes it extremely calm and healing. It would be an immense shame to lose part of what the city has worked so hard to establish over the years.
Thanks,
- Aaron Dodson

Please do not add a building to this wonderful park. I have enjoyed walking in it and observing the changing
Art exhibits highlighting the natural beauty of the park. To destroy this feature of our community is a short lived solution with long lasting implications. Police stations are by nature unattractive. Please put this necessary addition in a less conspicuous location.
Thank you.

Joe- After my email about “Who’d elect that clown Noah Blom to Congress” went to him and the rest of the city council along with my being fairly open about my disdain for the “Gang of 4” my guess is I wouldn’t stand much of a chance of Lauren and her cronies appointing me. But if you think it’s worth a shot I’ll fill out the application. I doh’t want to waste one second of my time if there’s zero chance I’d be one of the two at-large citizens chosen.

Dear Newport Beach City Counsel:
I strongly oppose the jail in the park concept that the city is pushing. We spent an absurd amount of money on Dove Street for a police station site and now you are pushing to put the police station in the Civic Center park. This is ridiculous and is opposed by every single person I have spoken to about this.
Please drop this concept. The land at the current site is sufficient to be able to build a new police station and the city owns that land already. It certainly seems to me that this is a City Council that has lost its way and is no longer listening to its constituents.
Thank you,
Susan Skinner
