DISCUSSION:
The NBPD operates 30 patrol SUVs (Explorers or Durangos), configured as standard black-and-white, unmarked and K9 vehicles. In accordance with City Council Policy F-9, patrol vehicles are on a four-year/75,000-mile replacement cycle and six black/white Ford Explorer vehicles are budgeted for replacement/procurement in the current fiscal year.
Purchasing the six black-and-white Ford Explorers allows the department to reuse some interior components which will save costs with upfitting.
