City Council Agenda Report
February 6, 2024
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Jesus M. Gomez, City Manager
BY: Allan Perdomo, Director of Recreation and Park Services SUBJECT: NORWALK 5K RUN SPECIAL EVENT UPDATE
Background:

The City Council approved adding and creating a city-operated 5K run special event for Fiscal Year 2023/24. The primary goal of the 5K run is to encourage and foster health and wellness within the City of Norwalk. This first-of-its-kind event will be open to all ages and skill levels.

Residents, from beginners to professionals, are invited to bring their families and friends.

The Recreation and Park Services Department (RPSD) is responsible for managing and coordinating all citywide events. After evaluating the department's event calendar, neighboring running events, and many other logistical factors, the department has determined Sunday, June 2, 2024, as the best date for the event. Fiscal Impact:

The Recreation and Park Services Department has an allocated budget of $93,000 for Fiscal Year 2023/24 for the Norwalk 5K Run. The event will intake revenue per runner registration and event sponsorships. The fee schedule allows an early bird rate to encourage early registration to establish traction and a grassroots approach toward promoting the event. The department has created a robust sponsorship package detailing all the benefits for potential event sponsors.
