SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF WORK FOR MODERNIZATION OF ELEVATORS AT THE
NORWALK/SANTA FE SPRINGS METROLINK STATION
Background:
On April 18, 2023, City Council approved an agreement with Schindler Elevator Corporation (Schindler), to modernize the two elevators at the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs Metrolink Station.
The project included furnishing all necessary labor, materials, equipment, and other incidental work necessary to satisfactorily complete the project; including new control & power unit, valves, wiring, door operator, door restrictors, door detectors, fixtures, and access switch.
The contractor’s work was satisfactorily completed on March 27, 2024 for the Norwalk east-side and on March 29, 2024 for the Santa Fe Springs west-side. Both elevators were inspected and passed by the State of California Department of Industrial Relations on the same day the work was finished. The State inspector issued two temporary permits for the elevators so they could be put into service immediate pending the issuance of permanent permits.
Fiscal Impact:
The project budget was approved for an amount not to exceed $159,976. A change order was executed for additional work not covered in the Agreement for Fire Life Safety Upgrades. The additional cost for the change order was $37,857.22.
The final cost of the project was $197,833.22 which was within the approved budget and funded through Proposition C Local Return funds including a retention of $19,787.57 to be released to Schindler after acceptance of work.
