SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCH CONSOLES
Background:
As a trusted community partner, the Norwalk Public Safety Dispatch Center processes approximately 2,000 monthly quality-of-life calls. A dispatch center with such a high number of calls requires a dispatch console system that is efficient, effective, resilient, and reliable. To keep a quality dispatch console system, it is critical that the City periodically upgrade its system to streamline the dispatching process and ensure an effective response to the needs of Norwalk’s residents.
After determining that the current dispatch center required upgrades and carefully considering several public safety dispatch console vendors, staff selected Evans Consoles Inc. (Evans) as the City dispatch console vendor. Evans has provided a reliable, efficient, and customized dispatch setup that considers room dimensions and console specifications as a global leader in delivering innovative solutions for mission-critical operations. The scope of work to design, manufacture, procure, and install is well within Evans’ expertise. Evans’ experience will help the success of the dispatch console system that meets the City’s current and future needs.
Fiscal Impact:
The cost of a new console is $81,129.37 and funded by the American Rescue Plan Act in the Fiscal Year 2024/25 budget.

The recommended action will further the City’s Strategic Goal 1: Provide High Quality Customer Service to the Community.
Recommended Action:
Staff recommends City Council approve an agreement with Evans Consoles, Inc. to provide a Public Safety Dispatch Console in the amount of $81,129.37; and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement and any amendments provided there is funding in the budget and it is within the City Manager’s signing authority, on behalf of the City, in a form approved by the City Attorney.
