SUBJECT: AGREEMENT AMENDMENT NO. 2 - PROJECT NO. 7196, FIRESTONE
BOULEVARD BETWEEN STUDEBAKER AND IMPERIAL HIGHWAY CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENT
Background:
On January 30, 2019, the City executed an agreement with Mark Thomas and Company, Inc. for the design of Project No. 7196, Firestone Boulevard Improvements. The project area is Firestone Boulevard from Studebaker Ave to Imperial Highway.
The design provides for the upgrade of the existing section of Firestone Boulevard from 4-lanes of traffic (two in each direction) and a landscaped raised median to three lanes in each direction with a center median. The project also includes design for widening of the existing bridge segment over the Union Pacific Railroad line and adjacent embankment slopes.
On February 28, 2024, the City executed Amendment No. 1 to this agreement for bid support services.
During design of the project, the project limit was divided into two phases with the first phase set at Studebaker Ave to Imperial Highway. Additional design efforts were expended in site investigations due to unexpected soil conditions and engineering design of bridge abutments and retaining structures for the railroad overcrossing widening. Design budget items were allocated from construction support to provide for the extra design efforts to avoid delays to the design project.
