SUBJECT: PROJECT NO. 7234 – APPROVE AMENDMENT NO. 2 FOR STUDEBAKER
ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS (KENNEY ST TO ROSECRANS AVE) [FEDERAL PROJECT NO. HSIPL-5347(044)] – ENGINEER’S REPORT NO. 25-09
Background:
On December 16, 2022, City Council awarded a contract to California Professional Engineering, Inc., (contractor) in the amount of $1,579,769.20 for Studebaker Road Traffic Signal Improvements (Kenney Street to Rosecrans Avenue); Project No. 7234. The project provides upgrades to traffic signal hardware, installation of new pedestrian countdown signal heads, and updates signal timing coordination at specific locations along the entire project corridor. The upgrades/improvements are expected to improve traffic flow, enhance safety with upgrades to traffic signal coordination and intersection pedestrian facilities.
Several change orders were administratively approved by City staff, within the City Council- approved contingency of 20% of the original contract amount of $315,954. However, additional work has now resulted in exceeding the original contract contingency by $17,109.23. The total cost of the additional work is $333,063.23, bringing the total contract amount to $1,912,832.43.
Staff recommends approval of Contract Amendment No. 2 to cover the additional cost of Construction Change Order (“CCO”) No. 13, as follows;
CCO No. 13 – Bid Item Quantity Adjustments: $17,590.00
