SUBJECT: APPROVE PURCHASE OF HANDHELD RADIOS
Background:
As part of the Fiscal Year 2025/26 budget process, the Public Services Department budgeted for the purchase of handheld radios for the department. Effective communication is critical to daily operations, special events, and emergency response. Handheld radios provide staff with a reliable and immediate means of communication that is not dependent on cell phone networks, which may become overloaded or unavailable during high-demand situations. B&W Communications Inc. has successfully provided radios for other City departments under a cooperative purchasing agreement, ensuring compatibility and streamlined support across all divisions. Procuring these radios from the same vendor promotes consistency, reliability, and interoperability among departments, which is especially important during Citywide events and emergencies.
Fiscal Impact:
Funds for the purchase of handheld radios are included in the approved Fiscal Year 2025/26 budget.

Recommended Action:
Staff recommends City Council approve the purchase of 70 Handheld Transceiver Radios and associated equipment, licenses, and fees from B&W Communications Inc. in the amount of $58,335.64 and authorize the City Manager to execute the purchase on behalf of the City.
