SUBJECT: CONFIRM EMERGENCY WORK AT AQUATIC PAVILION
Background:
The Aquatic Pavilion pool experienced a pump and filtration system failure that rendered the pool system inoperable. These critical components required immediate emergency action to protect public health and safety and avoid prolonged facility closure. Waterline Technologies, Inc., the City’s contractor for pool maintenance and chemical supplies for lap and wader pools at the Aquatic Pavilion, was utilized for the aforementioned repairs. During this period, Public Services staff drained the pool, scrubbed the interior walls, replaced main drain covers, and refilled the pool water.
Repairs were completed during a four-week shutdown to restore the system to operational status. The pool was rendered fully operational on September 12. The following work was performed:
Rebuild the pump using new seals and install the rotating assembly into the pump housing.
Installed and bolted the pump housing and installed a new (Love-Joy) coupling connected to the motor.
Removed two 8” gear-driven isolation valves and installed two new isolation valves. Dove the pool to remove plugs from the main drain, flood the pump, and confirm start-up with no leaks.
Removed air from the filters, performed backwash cycles, and restored them to service. Installed influent manifolds in all three filters and secured plumbing with new stainless hardware.
