SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL REORGANIZATION
Background:
Annually, City Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor and one to serve as Vice Mayor. Following is the procedure for reorganization:
The City Clerk will declare that the next item of business shall be the selection of a Mayor and a Vice Mayor for the upcoming year.
The City Clerk declares that nominations are in order for the office of Mayor. The City Clerk accepts nominations; a second to the nomination is not necessary. If there are no further nominations, the City Clerk will close the nominations and take a roll call vote. If more than one nomination, a vote will be taken in the order of the nomination. Following the vote(s), the City Clerk declares the Mayor elected.
Following the election of the Mayor, the same procedure will be followed to elect a new Vice Mayor for the upcoming year.
