City Council Agenda Report

SUBJECT: CONFIRM EMERGENCY SERVICE WORK ON PRESSURE REDUCING

STATIONS FOR WATER SYSTEMS
Background:

The Norwalk Municipal Water System (“NMWS”) relies on pressure reducing valves installed throughout the city to regulate water pressure, protect infrastructure, and maintain operational efficiency. During routine system operations, several pressure reducing valves were identified as requiring immediate maintenance and rebuilding services in order to keep the system functioning properly, prevent potential service disruptions, pressure fluctuations, and prevent damage to the distribution system. Due to the urgent nature of the work, emergency maintenance and rebuild services were necessary to restore the valves to a reliable operating condition.

Griswold Industries, the City's designated contractor for pressure reducing valve components, was utilized to perform the emergency services. Over a three-week period, maintenance and rebuild services were completed at five locations, with all pressure reducing valve components restored to full operation. The work included installation of main valve and pilot rubber rebuild kits and the performance of preventative maintenance necessary to maintain continued system reliability. Due to the extent of the emergency repairs and rising maintenance and rebuilding costs, additional funding is required to pay the outstanding invoices. The five locations where emergency work was performed are as follows:
13612 San Antonio Drive
11723 Rosecrans Avenue
13903 Sylanwood Avenue
11542 Lowemont Street
12601 Norwalk Boulevard
