RESOLUTION NO. 26-52
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORWALK AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE FISCAL YEAR 2026/27 ADOPTED
BUDGET TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TREE
PLANTING INITIATIVES IDENTIFIED IN THE UPDATED URBAN FOREST
MANAGEMENT PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Council is concurrently considering adoption of the Updated City of Norwalk Urban Forest Management Plan (Plan), which establishes a long-term framework for managing, preserving, and expanding the City's publicly maintained urban forest; and WHEREAS, the Plan recommends increasing the City's urban tree canopy through strategic tree planting, preservation of mature trees, and continued investment in proactive maintenance, including an annual tree planting goal of approximately 404 trees; and WHEREAS, during the July 21, 2026, City Council study session on the Draft Urban Forest Management Plan, the City Council directed staff to incorporate additional implementation strategies that expand partnerships with local schools and youth participation in community tree planting efforts, while identifying funding to begin implementation of the Plan's recommended tree planting goals; and
WHEREAS, an appropriation of $350,000 for Fiscal Year 2026/27 will provide funding to initiate implementation of the Plan's tree planting program and advance the City's long-term urban canopy objectives.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORWALK HEREBY DETERMINES, FINDS, AND RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.The City Manager is authorized to make the following appropriation and prepare the necessary budget amendment for the following account:

Expenditures: 748-30-3502-2080 $350,000
Fund Balance: 748-0480 $350,000
Section 2. The Mayor, or presiding officer, is hereby authorized to affix her signature to this Resolution signifying its adoption by the City Council of the City of Norwalk and the City Clerk, or her duly appointed assistant, is directed to attest thereto.
