RE: Update re Knox & Ross Law Group’s Work for Oakland Police Commission
Dear Oakland City Council, Honorable Council President Fortunato Bas, and Honorable Vice Mayor Kaplan,
This office serves as independent counsel to the Oakland Police Commission. This is to provide an update in response to the Cit y Council’s inquiries to the Commission about the contract work of the firm Knox & Ross Law Group.
The evening of May 18, 2021, the Office of the City Attorney reached out to our office to ensure, first, that we continue to coordinate with and report back to the City Council about Knox & Ross Law Group’s work, as permitted by state law and local ordinance, and second, that we coordinate with the City Attorney’s Office to determine what materials if any the Commission can lawfully share with the Council or lawfully release to the public.
We have no formal public communication to provide to the City Council about the ongoing investigation, but we will continue to provide prompt and responsive updates to the Council through confidential written update.
