President Fortunato Bas and Members of the City Council:
Pursuant to Section 401 of the Charter, the City Attorney has prepared and requests your approval of a resolution authorizing compromise and settlement of the above -entitled claim for the sum of Two Hundred Sixty-Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($268,000.00), less applicable withh oldings and deductions from the portion designated for alleged lost wages, payable to Sarai Crain.
This action arises from a claim filed by Sarai Crain (“Claimant”) through a letter from her counsel dated March 25, 2022, alleging that Claimant was subjected to gender discrimination, harassment, violations of the Equal and Fair Pay Acts, and retaliation by the City’s Chief of Violence Prevention. The City denies any wrongdoing or liability and does not admit any of Plaintiff’s allegations.
The City Council authorized settlement of this case in Closed Session on T hursday, April 21, 2022 (moved by Councilmember Carroll Fife and seconded by Councilmember Loren Taylor - 7 Ayes, 1 excused – Councilmember Sheng Thao).
