RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR TO
APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT GRANTS, GIFTS AND DONATIONS FROM
THE FRIENDS OF THE OAKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY, INCLUDING
DONATIONS OF MONEY, GOODS, AND IN-KIND SERVICES, IN THE CUMULATIVE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $3,000,000 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2025; AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS FOR LIBRARY
SERVICES
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Oakland Public Library (“FOPL”) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Oakland Public Library and raising funds to offer grants, gifts and donations to support the Library; and WHEREAS, the Oakland Public Library depends on these grants, gifts and donations to fund projects and programs that supplement the City of Oakland’s budget; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 87523 C.M.S., the City Council authorized the City Administrator to accept and appropriate cash grants and accept non-cash grants from FOPL in a cumulative amount of $3,000,000 through June 30, 2022; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to encourage the offering of grants, gifts and donations from the Friends of the Oakland Public Library and to facilitate the timely use of such grants, gifts and donations in support of the Library; and WHEREAS, the grants, gifts, and donations received from FOPL will be reported in the annual report to City Council; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the City Administrator is hereby authorized to apply for and accept grants, gifts and donations of money and accept grants, gifts and donations of goods and services from the Friends of the Oakland Public Library in the cumulative amount not to exceed $3,000,000 through June 30, 2025 for library services; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council hereby appropriates the funds from the grants, gifts and donations of money in an amount not to exceed $3,000,000 and the funds received shall be deposited into the Oakland Public Library Trust Fund (7540).
