RESOLUTION NO. _______________ C.M.S.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR TO (1)
APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE
LIBRARY; AND (2) ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE SAID FUNDS IN
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $323,367.37 THROUGH THE FISCAL
YEAR 2021-2022 FOR FUNDING HIGH-SPEED BROADBAND AT
OAKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY; AND (3) APPLY FOR, ACCEPT AND
APPROPRIATE FUTURE GRANT FUNDS FOR SAID PURPOSE
WITHIN THE GRANT TERM, WITHOUT RETURNING TO COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the California State Library has provided funds for high-speed broadband at Oakland public libraries; and
WHEREAS, access to high-speed broadband is important to close the digit al divide in Oakland; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland Public Library provides internet access at all lib rary locations; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland Public Library has aging network equipment that ha s reached the end of serviceability; and
WHEREAS, grant funds will allow purchase of new network equipment, configuration and installation; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends that the City Council accept and appropriate funds in an amount not to exceed $323,367.37 for the fiscal year (FY) 2021-2022; and WHEREAS, the required match funds of $8,291.47 are available and previ ously appropriated in Oakland Public Library Trust Fund (7540); now therefore be it RESOLVED, That the City Administrator is hereby authorized to apply for funds from the California State Library High-Speed Broadband Grant Program to provide broadband services at Oakland public libraries, and the City Council hereby accepts and appropriates said funds in an amount not to exceed $323,367.37; and be it

FURTHER RESOLVED: That the awarded funds shall be appropriated in the California Library Services Fund (2148), Organization 61211, Project and Program to be determined; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Administrator is hereby authorized to apply for and accept future grant funds from the California State Library for the same purpose within the grant term of FY 2021-2022 without return to Council, and the C ouncil hereby appropriates said additional funds received from the grantor; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Administrator is hereby authorized and directed to execute the funding agreement with the California State Library and any amendments thereto.
