CITY OF OAKLAND

CITY HALL • ONE FRANK H. OGAWA PLAZA • OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA 94612

COUNCILMEMBER LOREN TAYLOR (510) 238-7006
DISTRICT 6 [email protected]

Date: June 2, 2022
To: Members of the City Council and Members of the Public From: Councilmember Loren Taylor
Subject: Recognizing Black Daddy: The Movie

Colleagues on the City Council and Members of the Public:

As a Black father raising children in Oakland, I appreciate the work of Drummer Damon and his team for creating “Black Daddy: The Movie.” This movie, which he has described as part documentary, part music video, and part men’s support group follows the lives of Black men as the y navigate the joys and pain of fatherhood. We, in the Black community recognize that media portrayals of Black fathers as absent from their children’s lives is not accurate and the total opposite is tru e. Most Black fathers are successfully raising their chil dren while navigating centuries of institutional racism. The movie has received numerous awards and I encourage everyone to see it during it’s premiere on Father’s Day weekend.

And finally, I would like to thank and appreciate all fathers during Father’s Day weekend.

For all the foregoing reasons, I respectfully request your support of this Resolution Recognizing Black Daddy: The Movie.

Sincerely,

Loren Taylor
Councilmember District 6
