Subject: RFP For City Stables Concessionaire
The Oakland City Stables are a unique community asset located off Skyline Blvd in District 6.
The City Stables are currently operated by Diamond Equine Services, who manages the property and oversees programs. My office requested this report for the Council and public to learn more about the current services and programs offered at the City Stables and the status of the current contract between Diamond and the City that is set to expire in December 2022. Our office has held meetings with nearby residents and the Oakland equestrian community to identify how the City Stables could best serve the community.
Some community members have expressed concerns that the property has not been more open to the public and have suggestions on how to ensure that children and residents in the surrounding community and all throughout Oakland are able to use this facility to learn about horseback riding, sustainable agriculture, and related fields. Based on my office’s outreach the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) will be discussing the City Stables at an upcoming meeting. I want to thank Parks and Recreation staff for providing this report and I look forward to hearing how the City Stables can be more open and accessible to our City’s youth and residents through horse boarding, lessons, training and outreach programs.
