Re: RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LEND

A HAND FOUNDATION AND THEIR IMPACTFUL LEGACY OF SUPPORTING

CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILIES IN THE EAST BAY AREA

Dear City Council Colleagues and Members of the Public,

I am pleased to bring forth this resolution commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Lend A Hand Foundation and its impactful legacy of supporting children, youth, and families in the East Bay Area.

The Lend A Hand Foundation (LAHF), guided by Ms. Dee Johnson and headquartered in Oakland’s District 7, has had an outstanding legacy, with numerous contributions to families in the East Bay Area.

The LAHF has maintained a passionate commitment to combating the fury of hopelessness in the lives of Oakland’s youth and families. Showing up for 25 years with a deep investment of love, time and a treasure of supplies and services; meeting the needs of our village and helping equip our youth to rise and prosper as leaders.

The LAHF’s mission is to enhance the quality of life of underserved children, youth, and families in the East Bay Area by offering cultural, and educational support.

The LAHF works closely with the Oakland Unified School District, transit ional housing facilities, and other partners and provides not only educational tools but food, clothing, and other essentials throughout the year to help families thrive. The LAHF strives to ensure that all children and families have adequate housing, food , and jobs, and are treated with equity, equality, and dignity. With Oaklanders being historically impacted by racial disparities, discriminatory laws, environmental pollution, and more, the support of the LAHF has been fundamental to many families’ survival.

Through the exemplary leadership of Ms. Dee the LAHF has educated, empow ered, and equipped our young scholars, paving a solid path for them to stay the course with academic

excellence and stability ; serving our youth and families with a strategy of love and contagious hope in action to help support their growing and changing needs.

The LAHF has created a space for us to show up unified, passionate, and driven to improve the quality of life for our village; to provide for those who need support the most - never turning anyone away no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation, or creed.

Therefore, I ask you to join me in supporting this resolution , honoring the Lend A Hand Foundation for its significant contributions to the City of Oakland over the past 25 years.

Yours in Service,

Treva Reid
Councilmember, District 7
