Budget Advisory Commission: Appointed
Interests & Experiences
Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.
Thank you for considering my application to the City of Oakland’s Budget Advisory Commission. I have been serving on the Budget Advisory Commission since November 2018, and served on the Budget Subcommittee during the recent budget process. I worked with the Commission on preparing a list of recommendations to the Mayor and City Council after the Mayor's proposed budget was released. I would like to continue to serve on the Commission through the next term. As the Research Supervisor of SEIU Local 1021, the largest city workers’ union in Oakland, I have extensive experience analyzing municipal budgets. For the past 11 years, I have worked in the Labor Movement as a researcher studying budget and financial statements in both the public and private sector. As the head of the Research Department at SEIU Local 1021, I routinely analyze public sector budgets and financial statements. I direct staff and oversee the production of reports, memos and recommendations to a variety of audiences and stakeholders. I believe my professional experience provides me with a unique and valuable perspective to bring to the Commission. While I have technical expertise and knowledge the city’s budget, I also understand its importance in terms of impact on the communities who rely on critical City services our members provide.
