One year later, I am filing the attached resolution reaffirming Oakland’s commitment to the principles of democracy and self-governance and condemning the continued invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is a sovereign, autonomous democratic state whose borders and territorial integrity cannot be changed by force. In solidarity with the Ukrainian people and those of Ukrainian decent in our Oakland community, I ask my colleagues to continue the Oakland City Council’s stance condemning Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine and reaffirming the right of any peoples to democracy and self-governance.
