Interests & Experiences
Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.

Completed a Bachelor's of Science in General Management with honors at DePaul University in 2020. An Oakland native, I returned home after graduating to find my 'work.' Inherent to my character has always been commitment to service and a devotion to examining who we ought to be as people. Thus I have volunteered with a number of civic organizations including: the Coalition for Concerned Medical Professionals, the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center, and We Lead Ours. Economics is central to my day job as an insurance broker at Marsh, the leading commercial lines brokerage in the world. Our roles entail analyzing trends in the insurance market to provide the most comprehensive, cost-effective coverage for our business partners. As with any financial institution, ripples in our global economy translate to ripples in the risk solutions we can present to our clients. For example US government sanctions targeting participants in the Russo-Ukrainian war have drastic implications on clients with exposure in eastern Europe. Clients with business need are sometimes forced entirely to proceed without coverage in these areas. In an entirely different realm, the collapse of FTX has had major ramifications for our cryptocurrency partners who are now being typed as adverse selection risks by smaller insurance markets. Volunteering over the last 2 years has revealed plenty about where my passions lie. My fascination is with governance, and more specifically, how we can lean on economic solutions through fiscal policy to improve the lives of those in need in Oakland. Much of my free time is spent researching fiscal policy solutions that have been deployed in communities around the world. So I'm very excited to collaborate with fellow Oaklanders to lift the economic tides in our city, install accountability measures to ensure we do not deviate from our stated goals, all while fostering transparency between voters and our elected officials.
