Area 1 Homicides – All Investigated Incidents
01 January to 31 May
11 Area 1- Captain Clay Burch
• Homicides, shootings, robberies, and burglaries remain priorities of focus.
• Measurable gang and group violence in West Oakland
increased from Q1 into Q2. There is a continuation of
preventative patrols and intelligence led patrol strategies, Ceasefire, Department of Violence Prevention, and OPD’s Violent Crime Operations Center (VCOC) to address these issues.
• Robbery in Police Beats 1 and 3 has declined in correlation with continued preventative patrols, collaborative community efforts, and focused enforcement and investigations. Although City-Wide, robberies are increasing including elsewhere in Area 1 due to numerous organized robbery crews that have formed.

This is being addressed with VCOC operations targeting these groups.

Area 1- Captain Clay Burch
• Problem solving projects continued into Q2 2023 to
address public safety issues and crimes committed in the violence concentrated gang areas. These projects
emphasize prevention and conflict resolution through
community partnerships.
• Homeless encampment numbers continue to rise and
are being addressed collaboratively with the
Encampment Management Team.

This report is hierarchy based. Crime totals reflect one offense (the most severe) per incident.

These statistics are drawn from the Oakland Police Dept. database. They are unaudited and not used to figure the crime numbers reported to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. This report is run by the date the crimes occurred. Statistics can be affected by late reporting, the geocoding process, or the reclassification or unfounding of crimes. Because crime reporting and data entry can run behind, all crimes may not be recorded.
