Interests & Experiences
Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.

My qualifications for the commission center on a spinal cord injury (SCI) I sustained in 2012 resulting in quadriplegia and the use of a manual wheelchair. My disability forces me to face myriad challenges daily, many of which are impacted by different levels of government. I want to bring my voice and the voice of my community to the stakeholders making decisions that dramatically impact the lives of people like me living with disability. My professional qualifications include representing the disability community in many ways over my career, participating in a range of organizations and forums including: founding a SCI community-support and lobbying non-profit, representing the disability community in federal research reviews, leading disability focused "Business Resource Groups" in my places of employment.

Additionally, my skills as a communicator and project leader in the business world could prove valuable to the comission. I believe my lived experience as a person with a disability, my professional expertise, and my passion to elevate the voices of the disability community to mutually improve Oakland for everyone align with the mission of the commission and position me well to add value to the team.
