The MCPD was established by City Ordinance Number 9968 C.M.S in 1980 as the Commission on Disabled Persons and amended in 1994 by Ordinance Number 11864 C.M.S. It was updated again in 2015 by city Ordinance Number 13334 C.M.S.

COORDINATION

ADA Programs Division staff coordinated the preparation of this report.

SUSTAINABLE OPPORTUNITIES

Economic: The work of the ADA Programs division and all-volunteer commission effectively reduces the City's exposure to disability discrimination claims and provides a mechanism for amicable and cost-effective resolution of complaints that do arise.

Environmental: Persons with disabilities can be more susceptible to severe negative health impacts from exposure to environmental pollution than the general population.

Race & Equity: The lack of ADA accessibility to city programs and services has an inordinate impact on communities of color, who live in areas with poorer infrastructure and may have limited or non-existent internet access to information and services.

ACTION REQUESTED OF THE CITY COUNCIL
