Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.
As a lifelong resident of the Allendale neighborhood/Laurel area in Oakland, I have a strong connection to this community and a deep passion for advocating on its behalf. Working closely with Neighborhood Services at the City of Oakland, I have been actively involved in efforts to revive the disbanded Neighborhood Council group, despite challenges such as staffing shortages and technical residency constraints within the beat. My commitment to community empowerment continues to drive me in these endeavors.
Furthermore, I
currently volunteer at the Alameda County Superior Court as an Information Officer, providing assistance to community members with offering directions within the courthouse, answering questions on where to receive copies of their records, pay restitution or traffic violations, and facilitating connections with the appropriate staff members. This role has allowed me to refine my communication and problem-solving skills while serving the public.
I
am also in the final stages of the hiring background check process with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for the Emergency Dispatcher I position. This experience has provided me with valuable insights into public safety operations and the critical role of clear communication in emergencies.
In addition, I have established a positive working
relationship with the Oakland Police Department's Mental Health Unit. I am actively engaged in understanding their LD 37 and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training programs, which are vital in assisting individuals in our community who are facing mental health challenges, disabilities, and substance abuse issues. This collaboration has deepened my understanding of the complexities involved in supporting community members in crisis situations.
I believe
that my experience in community advocacy, public service, and collaboration with law enforcement align well with the CPAB's mission of fostering civic engagement, collaboration, and public safety in Oakland. I am eager to contribute to the board's initiatives to promote positive relationships and problem-solving among residents throughout our city.
Thank you
for considering my application.

Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.
I have been working within the disabled community for over a decade and have experience working with individuals with motor, sensory, and intellectual disabilities. Starting out as a member of Best Buddies and Circle of Friends, I worked closely with my high school's special education program, and helped host event where students with intellectual disabilities could interact and socialize with other disabled students and neurotypical students. In university, I worked for the disabled students program, as well as interned at the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley. I studies Landscape Architecture and Disability Studies and did my thesis on designing play elements for autistic children. At the CIL, I worked closely with a master carpenter to design retrofits to local Berkeley homes to make them more accessible to their disabled inhabitants. Working for the DSP, I helped make classrooms more accessible and regularly interacted with students who had sensory disabilities. I hope to bring my design background to the MCPD and help the board communicate more effectively with designers and planners, as well as create design-based initiatives that benefit disabled people in Oakland, whether that be safer streets or parklet compliance with the ADA.

I was born and raised in Inglewood,CA and I am currently an Oakland resident. I have seen many changes in both communities that have negatively impacted the residents who grew up there. I currently work for the superior court of California, where I review cases to ensure compliance with state laws and policies. I would like to continue my career in Government relations. I want to work more closely to community members and make a positive impact.
